KARACHI, Jan 31: Over a dozen people were killed in different acts of violence in the city on Thursday, police and sources said.

These killings were besides that of a religious scholar belonging to the Jamia Binoria, his fellow cleric and their driver, who were gunned down on Sharea Faisal near Nursery in the afternoon.

In the early hours of Thursday, three bodies of young men were found dumped in a Baldia Town locality, the police said.

They added that the bodies stuffed in gunny bags were dumped at Haq Bahu Chowk in Qaim Khani Colony from a car by three unidentified men.

The victims were identified as Irfan Islam, Amjad Farooqui and Mohammad Ajmal, the police said, adding that their political affiliation, if there were any, could not be ascertained.

The bodies had been trussed up and the victims were shot in the head, SP of Baldia Town Shahjehan Khan said.

There were contusion marks on their necks as if a piece of cloth had been tied to it, the police said.

The victims had earlier been kidnapped by unidentified men within the remit of the Mominabad police station in Orangi Town at around 6pm on Wednesday. Following their kidnapping their cell phones were found switched off, the police added.

Two found shot dead in Surjani The bodies of two young men were found near Northern Bypass within the remit of the Surjani Town police station on Thursday morning, police said.

The bodies, which bore multiple gunshot wounds, were found at a deserted place in bushes, Surjani Town SHO Ejaz Rajpar said.

“The bodies have been dumped in our area, but it appears that they were shot somewhere else,” the SHO said.

The victims were identified as Haroon Baloch and Raza Sheikh through slips found in their hands, the SHO added.

The victims were said to be residents of Balochistan, the SHO said.

Body found near Askari Park The trussed-up body of an unidentified young man was found near the Askari Park on University Road within the remit of the PIB Colony police station on Thursday morning, police said.

They said that the victim had been shot in the head.

The police took the body to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities. Later it was taken to the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

Shia leader gunned down A leader of a Shia religious body was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Landhi on Thursday. The police said that the incident took place in Babar Market, where unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle targeted Iqbal Masood.

The victim suffered four gunshot wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he died during treatment, the police said.

The victim was the president of Anjuman-i-Tabligh Muhammadi, a spokesperson for the Majlis Wehdat-i-Muslimeen said.

Youth found dead in Lyari An unidentified young man was found shot dead in Timber Market in Lyari on Thursday, police said.They said that the man had been blindfolded and shot in the head. The police took the body to Civil Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Shot dead in Pak Colony The body of a young man was found within the remit of the Pak Colony police station on Thursday morning, police said.

The victim was identified as Nawaz Ali. He was a resident of Chakiwara, the police added.

The police said that the body had been dumped near the Love Lane Bridge and it was taken to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Body in a Landhi ground The body of a young man was found in the Habib Ground within the remit of the Landhi police station on Thursday morning, police said.

They added that the victim had been shot multiple bullets.

The police shifted the body to the JPMC where he was identified as Danish.

‘Bandit’ killed in SITE An alleged bandit was shot dead in a shoot-out with police in the Metroville area of SITE on Thursday, police said.

SITE SP Ali Asif said that two suspects tried to snatch cash from a man in Metroville, but a police party on patrol intercepted the suspects.

An exchange of fire ensued in which one of the bandits was shot dead while the other one managed to flee, the police official added.

The police recovered Rs500,000 and a pistol from the possession of the suspect, SP Ali Asif added.

Qinchi passenger killed in N. Nazimabad A man was killed while another wounded when unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on a Qinchi rickshaw near the KDA traffic intersection in North Nazimabad on Thursday.

The two wounded men were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where one of the passengers named Ali died while 35-year-old Ghulam Mohammad was admitted for treatment.

Wounded ANP leader dies The local Awami National Party leader of its Frontier Colony ward, Qadiria Unit, Saeed Khan, who had been wounded in a gun attack by terrorists near Bawani Chali on Dec 25, 2012, died on Thursday.

A statement issued by the Mardan House said that the victim’s funeral prayers were held in Umer Farooq mosque in Qadri Mohalla, Sherkhanabad, and he was buried in the Shahiabad graveyard in the evening.
