LAHORE, Jan 29: PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Husain has condemned the Punjab police for harassing his sister, brother-in-law former MPA Riaz Asghar Chaudhry and other family members in Mandi Bahauddin.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Shujaat said the force from all police stations of Mandi Bahauddin along with Elite Force raided the house of his sister and forcibly entered the premises. Describing the incident as the worst example of rule through force, Chaudhry Shujaat said the Punjab rulers were using police to victimise their political opponents.
The Punjab government should better pay attention to curb the increasing incidence of theft and dacoity. “This incident has exposed the claim of democracy and tolerance in Punjab. Entering the house of gentle people and causing lawlessness is the biggest terrorism,” Shujaat said, adding they (Sharifs) had not quit the old habit of vengeance.
A Punjab government spokesman said it was a quarrel between two brothers and Chaudhry Shujaat should not give a “political colour” to it. He said one brother had lodged an application with the police against another.
