Petty issue claims two lives

NOWSHERA, Jan 29: Two brothers were shot dead and their cousin was injured by their relatives over a petty issue at Pabbi here on Tuesday.

Police identified the dead as Haji Bahader and his brother Mesher Khan and the injured Umer Darraz of Spine Khak. SHO Pabbi Shakeel Khan said the shooting occurred after an exchange of harsh words over cooking of rice on the occasion of Eid Milad.

The bodies were brought to Rashid Shaheed Memorial Hospital Pabbi while the injured was admitted to hospital.

Umer Daraz registered case against Naik Awaz, Taj Mohammad, Haseem, Umair and Abdul.—Correspondent

Two killed on road

KARAK, Jan 29: Two people, including a teenaged student, were killed and two others were seriously injured in two separate road accidents on Indus Highway here on Tuesday.

Police said a car hit a schoolboy who was crossing the road near Chongi Chowk near Karak. The student, Mohibullah, was shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The driver escaped the area along with the car.

In the second incident, a car hit three men in Mir Kalam Banda, injuring them seriously. Local people shifted them to hospital where one of them succumbed to injuries. The other injured were stated to be in critical condition.—Correspondent

Two injured over land dispute

TIMERGARA, Jan 29: Two persons were injured when rival groups exchanged fire over a land dispute at Shaheed Badwan village in the jurisdiction of Chakdara police station on Tuesday. According to police, one of the injured, Jan Sher, received a bullet wound while the other was hurt after he was hit with stones. They were shifted to a local hospital.

The injured Jan Sher told the police that there had been a land dispute between Bakht Rawan and Salim families. He said the rivals exchanged fire when Salim family tried to intervene in the property.

The Chakdara police registered a case under 324 CrPC and arrested Bakht Rawan while the other accused was not arrested till filing of this report.—Correspondent

Funds misappropriation

PESHAWAR, Jan 29: The Public Accounts Committee of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Tuesday ordered inquiry into alleged irregularities in the purchase of security system worth Rs12.89 million.

The committee at a meeting presided over by MPA Zameen Khan scrutinised audit paras about administration department and expressed concern over delay in purchase of expensive security system which resulted in incurring financial loss to the exchequer. The PAC directed to fix responsibility and recover money from the concerned officials.

It also ordered recovery of Rs312,000 rent from a parliamentarian and a sub-engineer of the Capital Development Authority within 15 days for occupying rooms in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, Islamabad.

The committee also ordered registration of FIR against officials for embezzling over Rs5 million on repair of 32 official vehicles in 2008-09. It directed the secretary administration to conduct inquiry into the irregularities amounting to over Rs15 million.—Bureau Report
