MANSEHRA, Jan 28: Four people, including a woman and her minor son, were killed when a car fell into a deep ravine in Kawai area of Kaghan valley on Monday.
The accident occurred after a speeding wagon collided with the car bound for Balakot head-on.
The dead people included Zahida Bibi, Mohammad Fiaz, Mehwa Jan and her minor son, Umar.
After the incident, the local residents and police pulled bodies and the injured out of the ravine before shifting them to Civil Hospital, Balakot.
Doctors at the hospital referred the critically injured, including Mohammad Faisal, Raheela Bibi and Ashfaq, to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Mansehra.
The local police lodged an FIR and began investigation.
FRAUD INQUIRY COMPLETED: The anti-corruption establishment, Mansehra has completed an inquiry into a Rs8 million fraud for action against the culpable officials.
Circle in charge of ACE Ijaz Khan told reporters here on Monday that some local teachers had illegally drawn Rs8 million from the district accounts office’ account in connivance with the relevant officials.
He said each teacher drew from Rs100,000 to Rs 200,000 as transport and medical allowances.
“I cannot reveal the names of the people involved in the scam at this stage but can tell you that they all will be arrested soon for action,” he said.
When contacted, district in charge of education department Umar Kundi said the plunder was being recovered from teachers.
MNA TO MEET PM: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl MNA Laiq Mohammad Khan on Monday said he would meet Prime Minster Raja Pervez Ashraf during the current week.
“During that meeting, I will seek the prime minister’s intervention for declaring Baffa a tehsil of Mansehra district and ensuring gas supply to the area,” the MNA told a public meeting here. Mr Khan said Baffa and Gulibagh, which had been towns since the pre-partition period, were without basic facilities, especially gas supply.
“I am optimistic that the prime minister will play his due role in declaring Baffa a tehsil and ensuring gas supply to area without delay,” he said.
The MNA said he was confident that the locals would reelect him on the basis of his good performance. He said Oghi and Torghar were on the way to development. —Correspondent
