Three killed on road

MANSEHRA, Jan 27: Three people were killed in two road accidents here on Sunday.

In the first incident, two friends were killed when a pick-up van they were travelling in plunged into a deep ravine near Shinkiari. The victims were identified as Mohammad Taib and Mohammad Zaheer. Shinkiari police registered case and started investigation.

In the second incident, Bakht Noor was killed when a jeep he was driving fell into a ravine in Oghi area. The vehicle was going from Torghar district to Oghi.—Correspondent

Man, woman electrocuted

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jan 27: A man and a woman were electrocuted and five other women suffered burn injuries when a high voltage power line fell on some houses in Daraban Kalan area here on Sunday.

Residents said the power supply line fell on the houses in Mohallah Berozkhel, triggering a huge blaze, which damaged a number of houses and shops.

Residents said as a result of the power line collapse, a man and a woman were killed, while five other women suffered burn injuries.

The residents said the electricity supply lines in the area were old, adding sometimes power cables broke and fell on the ground even with a light breeze, which posed a potential threat to the lives of the locals.—Correspondent

Daily wagers sacked

KARAK, Jan 27: The Karak Development Authority (KDA) on Sunday sacked 24 daily wage workers due to financial constraints.

Sources in KDA informed Dawn that the sacked daily wagers had been recruited by the provincial Minister Mian Nisar Gul and MPA Malik Qasim Khan. The employees were receiving salaries from the KDA while working in the private guest houses of the elected representatives, the sources said.

The sources said employees inducted on political grounds would face the axe soon to lessen financial burden on the KDA.

KDA accountant Mian Khisrab Gul said the sacked employees were a burden on the authority.—Correspondent

Several Dir families join JI

TIMERGARA, Jan 27: About two dozen families at Chino Talash have announced to join the Jamaat-i-Islami. They took the decision during a function attended by the JI activists and elders of the area the other day.

Speaking on the occasion, the JI nominated candidate for PK-94 and former MPA Muzafar Syed advocate and other leaders welcomed the newcomers and assured them full support in future.

Similarly, over 90 elders also announced to quit the ANP and join the JI, at a function held at Makhai Khazana. JI vice chief and former senior minister Sirajul Haq, Humayun Khan, Hassan Ali Shah and others were also present.

Also in the day, several families’ head at Malala and Kotkay announced to quit their parties and joined the ANP during a party meeting.—Correspondent

Charsadda bar elections

CHARSADDA, Jan 27: Mohammad Altaf Khan advocate was elected as president and Saeedullah Khan advocate as general secretary of the Charsadda district bar association here on Sunday.

According to the election committee, Altaf Khan polled 94 votes and was elected as president. His rival Maqsoodullah Khan received 46 votes. For the slot of general secretary, Saeedullah Khan got 116 votes against his rival Liaquat Ali Khan who polled 25 votes.

Other office-bearers included vice-president Saifullah Khan and press secretary Alamzeb Khan. The candidates for the slots of joint secretary Mohammad Jan Khan and library secretary Asif Khan were elected unopposed.—Correspondent

Man shot dead in Kurram

PARACHINAR, Jan 27: A man was shot dead in Yaqubi area of lower Kurram Agency on Sunday, residents said.

They said that Syed Hamid Hussain, resident of Yaqubi village, died on the spot after being fired upon by miscreants near his village. Local residents said that miscreants managed to escape into the nearby Kochi hills.

Political administration taking notice of the incident sent levies and paramilitary forces to the area to maintain law and order situation. No arrest was made.

Meanwhile, elders of Turi tribe condemned firing incident and target killing of local residents in Peshawar.

They demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and provincial government to bring target killers to justice.—Correspondent
