PESHAWAR, Jan 26: Eid Miladun Nabi was celebrated with religious reverence, devotion and fervour in the provincial metropolis amid tight security on Friday.

The people took out several processions in the district to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

The main procession was taken out from Milad Chowk, where the people from across the district showed up in large numbers.

Holding banners and flags and reciting darood-o-salam, naat and Quranic verses to express their love for Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), the participants marched through bazaars of Hasthnagri, Chowk Shadi Pir, Karimpura, Chowk Yaadgar and Bazaar Misgara before gathering at historical Qissa Khwani Bazaar, where speakers highlighted different aspects of the life of prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

They urged Muslims to follow the teachings of Islam the way Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) did for peace and progress.Later, religious scholar Noorul Hasnain led dua.

Strict security measures were made for Mild processions. According to police, around 1,300 personnel and many plainclothes men were deployed at different places.

Several roads and entry points were sealed by cemented blocks and barbed wires, while security personnel bodysearched participants of the processions.

GT Road, City Circular Road and Shubba Bazaar Road remained open to traffic. However, the link roads inside the city areas remained closed for security reasons. In cantonment area, Khyber Road, Jail Road and Naaz Cinema Road also remained open.

A police spokesman said three DSPs including Amanullah Khan, Mohammad Ali Bogra and Asghar Khan supervised traffic on the occasion of Eid Miladun Nabi.—Bureau Report
