HYDERABAD, Jan 17: The growers of Badin district have submitted an application before the senior member, Board of Revenue, requesting him to direct the EDO, revenue, to conduct a survey in Dehs Garhari Nos 1 to 5 and Deh Ahmed Raju Nos 1 to 5 of Shaheed Fazil Rahu Taluka.

The application was submitted under the directives of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench.

The applicants have requested the Board of Revenue to declare the areas where their agricultural lands were located as calamity-affected.

Five growers, led by Qamar Hussain, stated in their applications that water was provided to them for the Kharif season, but not for the Rabi season.

The applicants claimed that the water provided from May 1 to Nov 11 was insufficient and could not cater to their needs.

They said that they cultivated paddy crops but full supply of water was not ensured, therefore, it also remained useless.

They pointed out that they were constrained to file a constitutional petition in the court after the Mukhtiarkar visited their agricultural lands for the recovery of dues under heads of land revenue, agricultural, and other taxes.

They added that the Mukhtiarkar warned that punitive action would be taken and coercive methods would be applied if the dues were not paid by the applicants.

They stated that the application was filed after the AAG, Sindh, assured the Sindh High Court that their matter would be considered and decided in accordance with the law if they approached the revenue authorities.

They prayed the Board of Revenue to direct the EDO, Revenue, to appoint an officer to conduct survey of their lands and submit a report before the Board of Revenue.

They said that they possessed their lands in Deh Garhari No1 to 5 and Ahmed Raju No1 to 5, which were provided water for the Kharif season only for 22 days. They said that they should be exempted from the payment of recovery of Abiyana, Dhal, agricultural taxes, etc.
