TDAP eyes $50bn export

KARACHI, Jan 22: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) is aiming to achieve $50 billion exports target soon with the help of result oriented efforts to enhance the country's trade.

This was stated by TDAP chief executive Abid Javed Akbar while addressing members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Tuesday.

He informed that on the sidelines of D-8 Summit, trade promotion organisations of D-8 countries had identified top ten tradable items of respective country and prepared export strategy accordingly. He suggested that KCCI can be made focal chamber for trade with D-8 countries, adding: “TDAP was keeping abreast business and industrial community on GSP Plus 2014 in European Union.” “Exhibitions and delegations are organised to plug ‘Made in Pakistan’ products in countries around the world,” he further added.

Akbar offered TDAP’s support for organising a seminar on Pakistan-EU Trade on recently enforced Autonomous Trade Preferences (ATPs) with concessional tariff arrangements on 78 items. He also sought KCCI's proposals to work on GSP Plus with USA. He said that KCCI will be consulted to organise a sequel of Lifestyle Pakistan exhibit in India.

“TDAP is maintaining a reservoir of market research and trade information as well as weekly and fortnightly reports of Trade Officers posted in more than 40 Missions of Pakistan abroad which will be shared with the business community,” he said.

He stated that in the wake of energy crises, subsidies and rebates for exporters hold importance.—APP
