LAHORE, Jan 21: Sunday’s triple murder involving two rival groups in Hadyara village has been seen as a result of police negligence. However, police authorities on Monday suspended the Hadyara station house officer to calm down the protesters.
Preliminary police investigation shows that acting SHO Din Muhammad and Burki circle DSP Attique Sindhu did not take action against both groups after the initial clash.Officials rather waited for the reconciliation arranged by local notables despite the fact that one group was planning a gun attack.
DIG (Operations) Tahir Rai says he has recommended action against the DSP.
A source close to the investigation said the acting SHO was suspended after the victim group lodged a three-hour protest on Jail Road on Sunday night and demanded action against police officials and the accused.
Police investigation said members of the Dr Rafaqat group thrashed a member of the Mian Akbar group four days ago and removed clothes of one of the members of the rival group in front of public.
On the day of the incident, members of the Mian Akbar group repeated the act with a member of the Dr Rafaqat group at the same place and this led to a quarrel between the two groups. Both sides went to the police for action against each other, but the police neither booked them nor detained them.
Police officials let members of both groups loose on the request of mediators who held the first session on the day of the incident and took a break for another session.
This break was the time when members of the Rafaqat group got an opportunity to target unarmed members of the Akbar group. Farhan Akbar (25), his brother Suleman Akbar (23) and their uncle Ashraf Sharif (40) were killed in the firing.
Cantonment SP (Investigation) Fida Hussain says police are conducting raids to arrest the killers, who are booked under sections 302, 324, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
