RAWALPINDI: A police team has left for Abu Dhabi to assist the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials who are in the UAE to obtain the custody of former chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority Tauqeer Sadiq, Dawn has learnt.

A senior police officer said the team led by SP Rana Shahid of the counter-terrorism wing had been constituted by the inspector-general of Punjab.

However, he did not confirm whether Sadiq, wanted in a Rs82 billion scam, had been taken into cus-tody by the joint NAB-police team.

He also did not disclose when the team was expected to return to Islamabad, saying: “I have no information about the arrest.”

However, according to media reports, Sadiq has been arrested in Abu Dhabi by Interpol which has informed the NAB about the arrest and which has led to the departure of the team from Pakistan.

Since the arrest warrants for former chairman of Ogra have been issued, the NAB has been searching for him.
