LAHORE, Jan 16: Makhdoom Syed Ali Raza Shah’s chestnut mare Royal Prosper outpaced her sixteen rivals to win the feature event during the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Thursday afternoon.

Odds on favourite, Royal Prosper, admirably ridden by riding boy A. Aziz, took a flying start and led all the way home warding off a strong challenge from bay colt Prince Khurrum in the dying moments.

He won the glory by one-and-a- quarter lengths. Bay colt Black Nigeria and Lucky Credit Queen finished third and fourth, respectively.

The winner trained by Mohammad Afzal clocked one minute 4 3/5 seconds over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres on the dust track.

In the fifth and supporting event bay colt Set A Fire, made a winning debut defeating bay Rukhsh by one-and-a- quarter lengths. Bay filly Morning Bird finished third while Fly To The Stars completed the board among 18 runners.

Owned and trained by Amjad Ali II, Set A Fire was also piloted by A. Aziz, who distinguished himself among the riders by bringing home three winners. Besides his victories in the supporting and feature event Aziz had earlier drove Sun Dance to an easy victory in the opener.

Trainer Mohammad Afzal excelled among the trainers  by saddling two winners, Free My Heart and Royal Prosper in the third and sixth race, respectively.

The most impressive performer of the afternoon was bay Fair Boy, who galloped home to win from Royal Harban by eight lengths in the fourth race. Owned by Khawaja M. Aatif Fair Boy was confidently backed at three to two favourite.

Bay mare Silver Baby caused the major upset of the day in the second race. She beat dark bay fancied Beena Roy Baby by three-fourth of a length. Well backed Hot Press and Shaiman finished third and fourth among eleven runners.

 Three favourites obliged punters in a card of six events. All races were contested over 1000 metres.

Two runners went lame during races on Thursday. Bay Waqar The Great developed tendon trouble during the second race and finished among also ran. Bay mare In The Game went lame during the fourth race. Both were heavily backed for a place position.
