MANSEHRA, Jan 13: The Kohistan police claimed on Sunday that they had arrested all the 12 accused involved in killing of three brothers who were shot dead last week over a marriage video clip.

“We have arrested all the 12 accused involved in the killing of three brothers over a marriage video clip,” Akbar Ali Khan, senior superintendent of police, Kohistan, told Dawn.

Four accused, including a cleric, who had led a jirga that allegedly ordered the killing of the men and women seen in the video, were arrested last week. The other accused were arrested during raids in different parts of Kohistan during last 24 hours. The police identified them as Shamsuddin, Mukhtasar Khan, Awal Khan, Jintasir, Mohammad Taus, Mohammad Bataul, Jahangir Khan and Munshi.

The SSP said that those nominated in the FIR by the victims’ family were arrested in mountainous areas of Palas tehsil and produced before the local court. He said that one of the accused was arrested from Mansehra.

Mohammad Afzal, a brother of the victims, told reporters here that he was satisfied with the arrest of the accused.

Sources said that Mr Afzal had also moved the Supreme Court for reopening of the case, which was initiated by the chief justice after taking notice of alleged killing of the women last year.

The case was disposed of on June 20, 2012, after a fact-finding commission constituted by the court found the women alive.

KILLED: A man was killed when a mudslide hit two roadside hotels near Dassu, headquarters of Kohistan district, on Sunday, blocking the Karakoram Highway to traffic.

The Karakorum Highway, which was blocked for traffic in the morning, remained closed for the entire day. Hundreds of passengers in vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road.

“We have retrieved the body of the victim and the work is in progress to reopen the road,” SSP Akbar Ali Khan told this correspondent by phone.
