Junaid Younus of Siege on the band’s newest video, Vairay Aavar, along side Sanam Marvi.
Q. What is Vairay Aavar about?JY: The concept is related to a poor but content couple, played by Uzma Hassan and myself, who find happiness in the simplest of things, help others and don’t accept charity. They are proud of the fact that whatever they make is their own because they have earned it through sheer hard work.
Q. How was working with Sanam Marvi?JY: It was great. In fact, it was an honour working with her. She is undoubtedly the best female voice to come out of Pakistan in recent times.
Q. Are you looking forward to more collaborations together?JY: Yes, we are collaborating on our upcoming album, Sufiyana. The song Vairay Aavar is a part of that album.
Q. How important do you think music videos are today?JY: Videos are important, but you need to have a great audio first and then a quality video to go with it.
Q. What’s up with Siege and what lies ahead?JY: As mentioned before, our new album Sufiyana is coming out and as the name suggests, it will be a Sufi piece of work which is totally different from what we did in our first album. We are sure people will love it because it has been produced with heart and soul. Then we are going on international tours including the UK, Norway, the US and Canada. Also, there are a lot of other surprises for our fans this year.
Q. When is Sufiyana releasing and why the delay?JY: We hope to release it by mid-2013. We want to make sure we give our best to our fans because they deserve it. The songwriting bit took a lot of time but now it’s all structured and in the final phase where we track the vocals.
Q. Have you tried your luck in Bollywood?JY: Not yet but we don’t mind going there if we are approached because it is a bigger market.
Q. Is Siege a one-man show?JY: Not at all! Every member plays his part and together we are able to come up with its sound. Every single member contributes in the music-making process, and whether it’s writing, composing or arranging the song, we all contribute equally.
