HEC body to revise biotech curriculum

ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: The National Curriculum Revision Committee (NCRC) of Higher Education Commission (HEC) will revise the curriculum of the discipline of Biotechnology being taught at the universities and institutes of higher learning of Pakistan at BSc and MSc level.

A high level 3-day meeting commenced here at the HEC, which was presided over by Prof Dr Altaf Ali G Shaikh, Director General (Curriculum) HEC. The committee will prepare a revised draft curriculum of the discipline, which will be later sent to the universities/institutes for views/comments for preparation of the final draft curriculum.

Meanwhile, the departmental development working party (DDWP) of the Higher Education Commission has also approved a project of capacity building at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad, at a cost Rs36.57 million.

Chairman HEC, Prof Dr Attaur Rehman has said the purpose of the project was to provide institutional strengthening to provide quality information technology education. This will enable COMSATS institute of IT to provide education facilities to the young from NWFP and other parts of Pakistan.

The project aims to provide IT education facilities to the students of the NWFP in particular and from other parts of the country, in general.
