MULTAN, Jan 14: The Multan Dryport Trust has announced a cut in its charges to facilitate exporters.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, MDPT acting chairman Khwaja Mohammad Younas said the dryport had reduced yarn terminal handling to Rs500 from Rs800 per container.

Similarly, he said, the port surcharge on cotton yarn would now be Rs15 per ton instead of Rs25. The port development fund had been brought down by 80 per cent, and now a container of yarn would be handled at Rs860. The Faisalabad Dryport Trust charged Rs2,295 and the Sialkot dryport Rs1,875 for the same service, he said.

He said keeping in view the industrial importance of Muzaffargarh, the MDPT was also working on a proposal to establish a dryport in the district for the benefit of exporters of Muzaffargarh, Layyah and Dera Ghazi Khan. It would provide services for export handling without overtime till 12 in the night. The MDPT was also working to reduce charges of import handling as well in line with the reduction in export handling.
