ISLAMABAD, Jan 14: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is not investigating any corruption case against the sitting ministers, said Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat while talking to the reporters after inaugurating the VIP and Diplomatic Protection Department of Islamabad police at Diplomatic Enclave here on Tuesday.

The minister dismissed the reports that the courts were still hearing cases against the sitting parliamentarians. To a question, he denied involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) personnel in a recent crackdown on people having alleged links with the Al-Qaeda.

“We do not need any assistance from any foreign agency for our security, as our law-enforcing agencies are fully capable of handling any situation,” the minister said.

Though he appreciated the police performance, he asked the IGP Islamabad to come forward to eliminating the “thana culture” and police apathy towards addressing the public grievances.

To another question, Faisal Saleh Hayat said the law- enforcing authorities had picked up an Australian from Karachi on suspicion of involvement in anti-state activities. He said no request had been made by the Australian government so far for his extradition. To another question, Faisal Saleh Hayat said he did not care about the MMA’s statements as they had no policy.

Appreciating the efforts of the Islamabad police for setting up the DPD, he said there were specialised forces in other parts of the world for providing security to the diplomats and a similar need was being felt in Pakistan since long.

He appreciated the cooperation of the US embassy in Islamabad in providing motorbikes, computers and other equipment to the police.

Addressing the diplomats present on the occasion, the minister urged them to come forward with suggestions and share their experiences in improving the working of the law-enforcing agencies.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Akram highlighted the importance of DPD in his address.
