Quorum issue claims another PA sitting

LAHORE, Dec 20: The quorum issue continued to haunt the Punjab Assembly, leaving the speaker with no other option but to put off the sixth sitting of the 43rd session for the house on Thursday.

Speaking on a point of order, PPP MPA Akhtar Gorchani drew the speaker’s attention towards his National Assembly counterpart asking for nomination of two provincial assembly members to represent Punjab on the National Commission on creation of new provinces.

Gorchani said it was not fair that the MPAs were not being nominated for representing the province. Speaker Rana Iqbal asked Gorchani to visit his chamber to discuss the matter.

Gorchani’s mike was switched off when he insisted on speaking more on the issue. Several other opposition members also demanded time from the speaker to speak on the issue but their requests were denied.

After being denied the permission to speak on the issue, PML-Q’s Seemal Kamran pointed out the quorum.

Earlier, during the Question Hour, the speaker admonished parliamentary secretary Rao Kashif Rahim for not giving updated answers to the questions related to the education department.—Staff Reporter
