Utilising resources for prosperity

PAKISTAN has a rich and generous supply of all kinds of resources: human resources, natural resources, historical reserve, strategic location and hardworking people. The list goes on.

There should be a geography reformation project in order to help spread the population around the Indus Valley. More than 80 per cent of our people are living along the tributaries of the Indus. In view of the increasing population the coastal belt should be developed for future settlements and coastal resources, including fishing, oil, gas and bio-tech development, should be explored.

We have enormous sites for hydropower development along our rivers in Azad Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All efforts should be made to develop these projects with the money sent by overseas Pakistanis, with a minimum return of 20 per cent to the expats.

Companies of overseas Pakistanis may be formed to enter this field.

Along with this, we should promote technical schools and institutions in every town to impart different categories of training. We should promote industrialisation in the country and export of manpower.

Along with this, we must develop and promote information, bioengineering and robotics. We are rather wasting our high-profile manpower in the field of medicine where thousands of brilliant students fail every year to get admission to medical institutions. This trend must change and people must join the fields related to science and technology in which all countries are promoting their younger brains.

We have to develop and reorganise our civil service. Honest, knowledgeable and efficient civil service is the backbone of any country. We must change our old ways of selection.

After 12 or 15 years of education and selection, the people must be given three to five years of extensive special courses of their concerned subjects rich with knowledge and development at the international level along with modern technology and e-management/techniques.
