MANSEHRA, Dec 18: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa haj minister Nimroz Khan on Tuesday urged all stakeholders, including Muttahida Qaumi Movement, to support the delimitation of constituencies and verification of voter lists in Karachi by the Election Commission.

“Karachi is a mini Pakistan where Urdu speakers, Sindhis, Pakhtuns, Balochs and other nations have been living together for six decades. They all have the right and responsibility to decide about the city’s future and security. MQM chief Altaf Hussain should not create hurdles to the smooth delimitation of constituencies and verification of voter lists and appear before the Supreme Court to clarify his position,” Mr Khan told a news conference at the Awami National Party’s jirga hall in Oghi on Tuesday.

The minister said all mainstream political parties except for MQM had welcomed the court’s decision for Karachi peace.

“We’ll never accept the unjustified hegemony of MQM in Karachi. Instead of creating a law and order situation in the city, Mr Altaf should face the Supreme Court,” he said.

Mr Khan said ANP supported the call for deweaponising Karachi and offered to begin the drive in areas whose most residents were its supporters and sympathisers.

He said MQM should not create hurdles to the deweaponisation drive to prove its commitment to restoration of peace in Karachi.

The minister said the provincial government had taken revolutionary steps for the development of Torghar district and its people by announcing mega projects.

“The ongoing Rs4 billion development projects will bring prosperity to the district,” he said.

He said his party would sweep the coming elections in the province to form the next government.

Shahzad Shah and other office-bearers of ANP were also present on the occasion.
