HYDERABAD, Dec 18: Public Affairs Officer Kristin Haworth of the US Consulate in Karachi has said that a number of exchange programmes are under way between the US and Pakistan in connection with education.
She was speaking at a seminar on “Higher education opportunities in the US” organised by the Sindh University of Jamshoro on Tuesday to guide students how to avail themselves of opportunities of scholarships in the United States.
A delegation from the consulate, including Kristin Haworth and Political and Economic chief Annu Patti and Sara Alam, attended the seminar held with Pro-Vice Chancellor of Mirpurkhas campus Dr Imdad Ali Ismaeli in the chair.
Prof Ghulam Ali Buriro, Prof Mohammad Yousuf Pardesi, Dr Noor Mohammad Jamali and others spoke on the occasion.
Ms Haworth said that a number of educational programmes were commenced in Pakistan and many programmes were running successfully in Sindh and Balochistan, including those of English language learning.
She apprised students about higher education opportunities in the US and ways of getting scholarships and taking admission to undergraduate and graduate programmes.
She said she was happy to be in the University of Sindh which always played a vital role in imparting education in Sindh in particular and in the country in general.
She said mutual exchange of students and other professional training courses were being held between both countries to help make Pakistan strong.
She said she believed in a strong Pakistan which was possible only by availing opportunities of higher education.
She said the United States Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) was playing a vital role in providing educational opportunities to Pakistani youths in the US. She said she would discuss matter of charging of fees for scholarships by the USEFP with the relevant authorities.
Dr Imdad Ali Ismaeli said the US was land of opportunities and students should try to avail themselves of such opportunities. He thanked the US delegation for educating students of the varsity about scholarships.
ENTRY TEST: Entry test for admission in the course of “Doctor of Physiotherapy” in Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) in Jamshoro was held on Tuesday. A total of 361 candidates from 23 districts of Sindh appeared for 30 district-wise merit seats and five seats in the category of university development programme.
LUMHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Mashoor Alam Shah personally monitored arrangements and held out assurance that admissions would be given on merit as per entry test result. The test was conducted under strict vigilance and security.
Meanwhile, the LUMHS authorities announced that entry test for admission in BS “Bio Medical Engineering” (session 2013) would be held on Dec 20 at 9am on the university campus. For submission of forms for admission in the course of BS “Nursing”, the last date is Dec 19.
