KARACHI, Dec 16: Five people were killed and one was injured in the city on Sunday.

A shopkeeper was killed and his brother was wounded when two gunmen attacked a carpet shop in North Nazimabad on Sunday night. Police said that the men, riding two motorcycles, came to Karachi Carpets in Erum Shopping Centre, within the remits of Taimuria police station. One of the men went inside the shop and opened fire wounding to two brothers, 45-year-old Mohammad Irfan and 42-year-old Mohammad Imran, who were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Irfan was pronounced dead while the younger brother, Imran, was admitted for treatment. The attackers fled after the shooting.

The police said that they were waiting for Imran’s condition to stabilise so they could ascertain the motive for the shooting.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead in New Karachi No.4, in remits of the Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station.

“Four suspects on two motorcycles fired a single shot at the victim,” said New Karachi SP Syed Salman Hussain. “The victim was shot in the neck and died instantly.” The body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

SP Hussain said that the victim appeared to be a labourer from KP. “Besides a packet of niswar, no clues were found on his body to identify him,” he said. Police said they were not sure about the motive for the shooting.

In another incident, a man was killed by unidentified assailants on the Banaras flyover, within the remits of Pirabad police station. Unknown suspects opened fire on 30-year-old Muslim Khan, who was passing by while riding a motorcycle. The victim was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police suspected a personal enmity to be the motive behind the attack, adding that the victim belonged to KP.

In yet another incident, a young man was shot dead by suspected robbers in Sohrab Goth. According to the police, the incident took place near an industrial unit situated off the Superhighway, in the remits of Sohrab Goth police station. Robbers tried to stop a car and when the driver, 22-year-old Abdul Raheem, attempted to speed away they opened fire at the car.

The suspects fled the scene after the shooting. The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but he died on the way.

Body foundThe police found the body of a 40-year-old Munsif Ali from Sector U of Gulshan-i-Maymar, in the remits of Maymar police station.

The police said victim had been hit in the head by a shovel used for digging on Sunday morning. The body was shifted to the Jinnah hospital for autopsy. The police said that the victim was a resident of New Karachi. The funeral prayer was held at Masjid-o-Imambargah Panjatani in Sector 5F of New Karachi.
