KARACHI, Dec 16: All but one horses tipped by Dawn swept the pre-Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup six-race card in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse here on Sunday.

The horses lived up to their billing in the first five races were Amazing Power, Gold Finger, Wati Wati, Green Nip and Black Orchid. The sixth and last race which was also the feature event, was won by outsider Honourable as favourite Dilruba was placed fourth.

At the outset, colt Amazing Power beaten by nine lengths on Dec 2, made amends by getting the better of co-favourite colt Mare Hazoor by four lengths to clinch the opening race.

Rider Zaki Zakir presented owner Syed Sibghatullah Shah with a winner by galloping three-year-old bay colt Gold Finger to a two-length victory over Dexterous to pick up spoils in the next race.

With two successive wins under his belt, dark bay colt Wati Wati continued his winning spree by sprinting to a three-and-a-half lengths victory over Days Inn to dominate the third race.

The colt, which belonged to the stables of owner Mohammad Ismail, was piloted home by Waheed and trained by Amjad Ali.

The owner- trainer pair was delighted when Wati Wati’s stable-mate mare Green Nip returned victorious by three-and-a-half lengths in the next event for a double success.

Filly Black Orchid won the fifth race as she pleased by nine lengths with ace jockey Ghulam Shabbir two astride. She beat mare Over Stepped for the honours.

Honourable, an unknown pedigree bay horse, came from behind to win the concluding race defeating Lava Man by two lengths.Meanwhile, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Dec 25.
