TAXILA, Dec 15: A three-member inquiry team of education department has found the teacher, who recently beat a Grade 8 student of Hassanabdal to death, guilty of the crime.

In its report on Saturday it recommended to the government to terminate the teacher from service without giving him any financial benefits, besides initiating investigation against the three teachers who hid facts from the authorities concerned.

Hasnain Abid, 15, a student of Government High School, Pour Miyana, was beaten to death by his teacher for coming late last Friday. He was moved to a local hospital in a critical condition where he died of injuries on Sunday.

Talking to Dawn, executive district officer (education), Dr Umar Farooq said the inquiry team, headed by district officer (Secondary education) Ch Mohammad Ilyas, had submitted its report.

The members of the team studied the case in detail, recoded statements of the accused teacher Mumtaz Hussain, students and teachers of Government  High School Pour Miyana and members of the victim  family and found the accused guilty of ‘corporal punishment’.

He said the report had confirmed that the teacher locked the student in a room and subjected him to severe torture.

He said the torture marks at the body of the student was visible even after three days of the incident.

The EDO said on recommendation of the team, the service of the accused teacher would be terminated without any pension or other financial benefits.

The executive district officer has confirmed that the headmaster and two teachers had been transferred remote areas of the district besides initiating disciplinary action against them under Punjab Employees Efficiency Discipline and Accountability Act.

He said that the headmaster was also found guilty of concealing and hiding the facts and he would be taken to task for this negligence.
