ISLAMABAD: The student wing of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday challenged the removal of Sohail Naqvi from the post of executive director of Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Filing a writ petition in Islamabad High Court (IHC), the Insaf Student Federation (ISF) made federal government, the HEC chairman, its executive director and Dr Attaur Rehman, former chairman/founder of HEC as respondents.
The ISF adopted before the court that HEC was established under the Higher Education Commission Ordinance 2002 and as per law only 18-member commission of the HEC was the appointing authority of the ED.
Sohail Naqvi was removed from the post of ED on November 28 and its current charge was given to secretary ministry of education and training without the consent of the HEC commission.
The petitioner requested the court to suspend the notification of appointment of new ED.
Farrukh Habib, Central President of ISF, while talking to Dawn, said that the petition was filed through advocate Farrukh Dall, and sounded optimistic about the resolution of the issue. —A Reporter
