LAHORE, Jan 10: The Mujaddid Mirza Commission is expected to present its findings to the chief minister on the issue of board of governors in autonomous health institutions by the end of next week.

The commission will complete recording statements of stakeholders by Jan 14. The commission has completed recording of some 90 per cent statements of the stakeholders so far.

The commission was constituted by the chief minister to look into the controversial issues of granting autonomy to public health and education institutions by setting up boards of governors to run their affairs. The commission was announced on Dec 13.

However, commission chairman Mujaddid Mirza, who has so far been looking into the health sector issues, has excused himself from hearing the points of view of the stakeholders of the education sector.

Mr Mirza told this reporter that he had asked the chief minister to relieve him because his ailing wife required his attention.

Meanwhile, former Justice Ijaz Nisar has been appointed to record the statement of the stakeholders of the education sector.

When contacted, Justice Ijaz said that he had not yet received formal orders to head the education commission.

Answering a question, he said that after assuming the charge he would see how many members were required to listen to the education related stakeholders.

On the other hand, Joint Action Committee chairman Nazim Hasnain said that the government should have taken the committee into confidence before appointing the new chairman to deal with education-related issues.

“The present move has surprized us,” he added.
