Paintings exhibition concludes
ABBOTTABAD, Dec 9: A two-day exhibition of paintings and historical photographs of Hazara Division concluded at the Moderngae Public School and College here on Sunday.
The exhibition was organised by the Bazame-i-Ilmo Fun Abbottabad and the arts department of Moderngae School and College. It was the first painting exhibition of Kiran Nazami and Bushra Nazami. A large number of people from all walks of life turned up at the event and took keen interest in the paintings and rare photographs.
The work of Kiran Nazami is inspired with the women’s life and nature and she has tried to give reflections of women living in an imaginary world and beauty of flowers. She used acrylic, oil, water and poster colours in her work.
Bushra Nazami put enormous varieties of artistic perception from abstract to figurative and from modern art to graphical printing in her work. Mohammad Siddique Jadoon also put on display pictures of Abbottabad from 1860 to 1970.—Correspondent
Solar energy system
LANDI KOTAL, Dec 9: The Khyber Agency political administration has provided the Landi Kotal Press Club with solar energy system owing to prolonged loadshedding.
Political tehsildar Arshad Khan gave away the system to Khiyal Zaman, president Khyber Agency chapter of Tribal Union of Journalists.
He lauded the services of the local journalists and said the solar energy system was provided to enable the journalists to continue their professional responsibilities without any hindrance. Khiyal Zaman thanked the political administration for provision of the new energy system and assured them of their continuous support and assistance in highlighting local issues and problems.—Correspondent
Bodies arrive from Australia
PARACHINAR, Dec 9: The bodies of two victims of the boat capsize incident, which had occurred off the coast of Australia in June this year, reached here on Sunday.
The bodies of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Intizar Hussain were among 16 other bodies retrieved from the waters. So far, the bodies of six victims of the incident have reached Kurram Agency, while one each was taken to Quetta and Orakzai Agency.
Meanwhile, the political authorities foiled an attempt to blow up a passenger vehicle and arrested a suspected terrorist on Sunday.
Officials said the accused was sitting in the passenger van going from Sadda bazaar to Parachinar when other passengers informed the authorities about the suspect.
The officials reached the spot and took the man into custody. A five-kilogram bomb along with a remote control was also recovered from him. The arrested man was identified as Raees Chamkani. He was shifted to an unspecified location.—Correspondent
Man killed in celebratory fire
CHARSADDA, Dec 9: The brother of a bridegroom was killed by celebratory fire during a wedding ceremony in Tarnab area here on Sunday.
Imtiaz told the police the wedding ceremony of his brother Jehanzeb was in progress when his other brother Alamzeb was killed in the celebratory fire. The Tarnab police registered case.Meanwhile, a man was killed and three others were injured when two motorcycles going in a wedding procession collided with a passenger coach in Sherpao area on Sunday. The victim was identified as Nayab. The injured were taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, a girl committed suicide over a petty domestic issue in Khan Mahi area on Sunday.—Correspondent
Anti-polio drive
LAKKI MARWAT, Dec 9: The district health department has formed 421 teams to immunise 144,857 children against polio in the anti-polio drive starting from Dec 17, said EDO health Dr Abdul Ghaffar Wazir on Sunday.
Talking to this correspondent on phone, he said 361 teams would launch door to door campaign while 42 teams would be present in hospitals and other health facilities to administer oral polio vaccine to children. He said polio teams would also be deployed at 18 transit points in the district to vaccinate children travelling along with their parents in public transport. —Correspondent
Football tournament
CHITRAL, Dec 9: The Jang Bazaar team beat Denin team by three goals in the final of district cup football tournament here on Sunday.
The tournament was organised by Relief International, an NGO, and the district football association. A member of the formerly royal family of Chitral, Shahzada Amanur Rahman, was the chief guest. He gave away prizes to the players.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said the players of Chitral had great potential to compete at the national level. He urged the government to provide maximum facilities to the youth to enable them to express themselves.—Correspondent
