LAHORE, Dec 9: The rejection of by-election results by Pervaiz Elahi shows his no-confidence in the Election Commission of Pakistan, says Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah in a press release issued on Sunday.

“The Chaudhry of Gujrat has spoken ill of the by-polls as part of a conspiracy to make the results of (upcoming) general elections doubtful,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi had alleged in a Faisalabad public meeting earlier in the day that the PML-N government in Punjab had used revenue officials (patwaris) to win the bye-polls. “An independent and autonomous election commission does not suit the Chaudhrys of Gujrat as they are in the habit of contesting elections by constituting election commission of their own choice,” he said.

He said the results of bye-election exposed the popularity of Chaudhrys in their hometown of Gujrat where the PML-N candidate defeated the PML-Q candidate. The runner-up candidate showed bags of ballot papers to the media which he says were used in the rigging by the Punjab government-backed candidate.
