ISLAMABAD, Dec 9: As many as 50 people were admitted to Polyclinic because of food poisoning, on Sunday.

The bride and the groom were also among those admitted to the hospital. Majority of the patients were women and children, Dawn has learnt.

According to the official of Secretariat police, the wedding ceremony of Raja Zubair Ahmed, lab assistant at Quaid-i-Azam University, was celebrated in Mir Khand village, near the university area.

Polyclinic’s spokesman Dr Sharif Astori confirmed that stomachs of 15 persons were washed.

However all patients had been treated and they were out of danger, he added.

Duty officer of Secretariat Police Station Sub Inspector (SI) Sultan while talking to Dawn said that the groom’s father, Abdul Rasheed, had also been admitted to the hospital.

According to police sources, menu at the wedding was chicken curry, mutton rice and carrot desert.

All food items were prepared at the residence of Raja Abid, a relative of the groom.

Samples of food items were collected and further investigation would be carried out after the report comes from the lab.
