PARIS: President Asif Ali Zardari arrived here on Sunday to attend a conference on “Stand up for Malala — Stand up for girl’s right to education” being organised jointly by Pakistan and Unesco.

The president came to Paris after visiting Malala Yousufzai at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The conference will pay tribute to the 15-year-old girl, who survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban, for her determined efforts to defend girls’ education in Pakistan.

A special Malala fund will be established on this occasion to raise money for girls’ education throughout the world and Pakistan will pledge seed money for it.

The event coincides with the International Human Rights Day and it will bring together representatives of governments, UN partners, international and bilateral organisations, foundations, donors and civil society organisations, besides academics, religious leaders, eminent personalities and other stakeholders.—APP
