KARACHI: Khwaja Nazimuddin said yesterday the whole idea of the Councillors’ Muslim League joining the National Democratic Front is not practical, described the chances of a meeting between him and President Ayub Khan as very remote, and explained why a rapprochement between the two Leagues was not likely.

He also elaborated his Dacca statement on “a whispering campaign for secession” and expressed himself strongly against Basic Democracies and limited franchise, which he described as ingratitude to the common man. Ideas of secession emanate from “Communists and our friends on the other side of the border”.

He told a news conference in Nazimabad, the middle-class colony named after him, that individuals might have arrived at some understanding or agreement with the NDF, but there has been no agreement between the League and the Front. “I have not talked to anybody in the NDF.”

“We will cooperate with them only if they agree with our programme — the whole programme.”—Special Representative
