CHITRAL, Dec 6: Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) has introduced poverty score card system to identify poverty levels in Sheshi Koh valley of Chitral and initiate relevant poverty alleviation measures.
Speaking at a function in the valley the other day, the programme’s district officer Tariq Ahmed said that Sheshi Koh valley had a mountainous topography with small tracts of land for agricultural activities. He said that they had conducted survey on household level to collect figures about financial capacity of each family.
He said that under a new approach they were providing the poor with resources and training for self-employment.
“The traditional method of giving money or food items to the poor has been replaced by a gadget, which is sustainable in nature and promises them a bright future,” he said.
Mr Ahmed said that vocational training for self-employment was imparted to people in different trades and keeping in view the scope vocation in the area.
At the end of training, the participants would be provided with tools to enable them to establish their own workshops, he said and added that women would be given training in livestock keeping and for this purpose cows and goats would be provided to them. On this occasion, tools were given to the first batch of 98 persons.—Correspondent
