CHAKWAL, Dec 4: Young farmers of Chakwal district received keys of green tractors on Tuesday.

The scheme was announced by the Punjab chief minister a couple of months ago. After fulfilling the all formalities the farmers gathered at District Council Hall where they were given keys at a ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion Executive District Officer Agriculture Liaquat Ali Sulehri said the Punjab government was working for the betterment of young farmers of the province as well as the agriculture sector.

The farmers of tehsil Chakwal were given 53 tractors while 42 tractors went to tehsil Talagang. The tehsils of Kallar and Choa Saidan Shah got 12 and 11 tractors respectively.

EDO Sulehri said that a modern irrigation system was also being introduced in Chakwal district.

“Chakwal is a pluvial district and by the installation of new irrigation system will increase the yield of different crops,” he said.

PML-N leader Chaudhry Haider Sultan said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was doing his best for the betterment of every sector in the province.

Later, he along with other officers distributed keys of tractors to farmers.

Talking to Dawn the farmers thanked the chief minister for giving them tractors at subsidised prices.

“I never thought that I would get a green tractor”, said Mohammad Akbar, a farmer from Choa Saidan Shah.

“To some extent my financial worries will end as I will earn a handsome amount by tilling land with my own tractor,” he added.
