Eighty-eight years old Indian pilgrim, Nandan Singh, on Saturday, offered special prayers for the prosperity and safety of Pakistan, at Gurdwara Punja Sahib, Hassanabdal, as his last wish of visiting his Janam Bhoomi (birthplace) was fulfilled.

Mr Singh who hails from the city of Ludhiana, had been trying to visit Pakistan for the past two years. Mr Singh’s family had migrated to India in 1947 and were not able to return since.

The government waived off all the restriction on the movement of Mr Singh and his daughter, Surinder Kaur, and through special arrangements made by Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Syed Asif Hashmi, Mr Singh was taken to his old house now situated in Machine Mohallah in district Jehlum, where he had spent his child hood, before creation of India and Pakistan.

He said that it was like re-birth after visiting the same streets, where he had grown up.

He said that as the Pakistani government had fullfilled his last wish, I have come here to the Gurdwara to offer prayers for the prosperity of Pakistan and pay homage to the Pakistani leaders.

“I thank Pakistani government, especially President Zardari and Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board Mr Hashmi for fulfiling my last wish,” said Mr Singh.

He said that he is an old man and after fulfiling his last wish, his soul would rest in peace with the blessing of Pakistani leaders.

Ms Kaur, daughter of Mr Singh, who also accompanied him, said that after visiting his birthplace, her father felt ten years younger.

She said that they were on a pilgrimage to visit the sacred land of their Guru. She said that she would also offer special prayers for Pakistan.—Correspondent
