Hindu family robbed of cash, jewellery

SUKKUR, Nov 28: Armed robbers entered the house of a Hindu family in Jacobabad and looted cash and jewellery worth millions of rupees on Wednesday, police said.

They said that three robbers entered the three-storey house in Dangar Muhalla within the remit of the City police station, held the inmates at gunpoint, locked them in a room on the ground floor and looted Rs450,000, gold jewellery weighing about 40 tola and other valuables.

The robbers spent three hours in the house and later escaped on a motorcycle.

The police said that the families of Dewan Lal, Nirmal Kumar and Gulab Rai were living on the ground, first and second floors of the house.

The victims phoned their relatives, who reached there and opened the door of the room.

Panic and fear prevailed among members of the Hindu community living in Jacobabad city following the incident.

Local leaders of nationalist parties strongly condemned the incident and said that it was the responsibility of the police to provide safety and security to the Hindu community, but they failed to do so.

Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, they warned that otherwise strong protests would be staged.

No FIR was lodged regarding the incident till late in the night.—BoC
