Man killed in ‘sectarian’ attack

KARACHI, Nov 27: After over a weeklong lull in targeted killings in the city, a young man was gunned down in a sectarian attack in the Gulbahar area late Monday night, police said.

They added that armed men riding a motorcycle fired shots at 30-year-old Ali Haider in Gulbahar No 2 within the remit of the Rizvia police station and fled. The victim suffered fatal bullet wounds, causing his death on the spot, the police said.  They said the victim had arrived in Gulbahar to see someone when he was targeted.

The motive for the killing seemed to be sectarian though the victim was also a sympathiser of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, said DIG (west) Javed Odho.  The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The victim’s funeral prayers were offered at Imambargah Aalay Muhammad in North Karachi before his burial in the Wadius Salaam graveyard in Surjani Town.
