President political but not a conspirator: Kaira

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira on Tuesday said the president was a part of the parliament, adding that, the parliament would be incomplete without the head of state, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to reporters in Lahore, Kaira said the Aiwan-i-Sadr had a political president and not a president who was a conspirator.

He added that in the past, the Aiwan-i-Sadr had been used to attack democratically elected governments.

Kaira said the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had always worked to address the issues ailing the public, adding that, other parties had shied away from that.

The minister said living in the past could not benefit anyone, adding that, one had to learn from the past and move forward.

He said weak state institutions would disintegrate the society, adding that, instances where the people were robbed of their mandate weakened the ties between the state and the public.

On the Supreme Court's ruling in the Asghar Khan petition, Kaira said the order had also named former members of the armed forces and intelligence agencies.

He added that it would have been better if along with naming names, the court also determined the sentences for each one of them.
