KARACHI: A violent protest was sparked at the cantonment railway station on Monday, as almost every passenger train scheduled to leave Karachi was delayed for hours due to an acute shortage of fuel.

The trains, including Karakoram Express, Millat express, Tezgam, Night Coach, Zakaria Express, Fareed Express and Bolan Mail, left the Cantt and city railway stations hours behind schedule.

A large number of passengers at the Cantt station went on a rampage and attacked and damaged some railways offices there.

The protesters were raising slogans against the railways authorities and said that the railways high-ups systematically and under a conspiracy were destroying the national asset so that the road transport could flourish.

Meanwhile, Karachi Railways chief Anzar Rizvi said that the trains were getting delayed owing to a fuel shortage, and probably even tomorrow (Tuesday) the trains would be delayed again.
