I WAS recently looking at how Germany was able to develop a vast manufacturing base. The main reason for their success lies in the fact that 50 per cent German students opt for vocational training.
In Germany all areas of work are covered by certified courses and one is required to qualify to even become a carpenter or a plumber. We should also evolve some system whereby young generation can go for vocational courses and can earn their livelihood by getting better opportunities in Pakistan or even going abroad for jobs.
As there is immense competition in the Middle East and Gulf countries our workers, if properly trained and qualified, will definitely have an edge.
