LAHORE, Nov 23: The city government administration has completed all arrangements to monitor Zuljinnah and Tazia processions to be taken out across the city to mark Yaum-i-Ashur on Sunday (tomorrow).

An official told Dawn on Friday the CDGL in collaboration with respective town municipal administrations and law-enforcement agencies had got dozens of CCTV cameras installed on the routes of mourning processions, mainly the main procession.

“The main Zuljinnah procession will be taken out of Nisar Haveli on Saturday night and it will reach Karbala Gamay Shah on Sunday evening. On the way, some small processions will also join the main procession,” the official said.

He said similarly various processions would be taken out from Thokar Niaz Beg and other parts of the city.

He said the respective tehsil municipal administrations had got installed thousands of emergency lights on processions’ routes. He said the CCTV cameras had been linked with the central control room, set up at the DCO office.

“The police department has also finalised its strategy for the security of processions,” he said, adding the various nation-building departments, scouts and volunteers from social welfare and civil defence departments had also been engaged to monitor and facilitate the Muharram proceedings.

Addressing a meeting of senior administration officials, he said that doctors, nurses and paramedics would remain alert and those working in emergency ward would not be allowed leaves during these days.

The OPD will remain closed on Muharram 9 and 10 and the staff will serve at emergency and other wards.

Dr Vohra said the additional staff had been deputed at the emergency ward along with separate beds under special duty roaster specified to help azadar (mourners).

He said the Blood Bank in-charge had been directed to keep enough stock during Muharram and necessary drugs had also been ensured.

He said that ambulances would remain standby round-the-clock while an administrative doctor would also be available 24 hours at phone number 042-99264117 at the control room of the hospital.

The PGMI principal made it clear to AMS and DMS that they would strictly observe punctuality and timekeeping of the staff.

He said that generators would be functional during the crucial days while sanitary inspectors would have to perform their duties regularly.
