Security beefed up around HMC

RAWALPINDI, Nov 19: Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal has directed the police department and law enforcement agencies to make special security arrangements around Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC) Taxila, to avoid any terrorist attack.

A high level meeting was called after a report was received from special branch of the police that the poor security arrangements around the HMC needed to be upgraded because terrorists could take advantage of the situation.

Soon after receiving the report, the commissioner directed the law enforcement agencies and police to make special arrangements around the HMC.

The meeting was attended by DCO Saqib Zafar, RPO Capt (retired) Mohammad Zubair, CPO Azhar Hameed Khokhar, HMC Managing Director and security staff of HMC, DSP Special Branch Mohammad Irshad and other senior officials of the division.

“There are 80 security guards employed by the HMC management for security arrangements and all are without licenced weapons,” the administration of HMC informed during the meeting.

The administration should issue more licences to beef up the security arrangements. Besides, there were fruit and vegetable sellers and hand carts standing along the outer walls of the factory, which were a security threat, revealed a HMC official.

The Commissioner said that a joint meeting should be convened by the Assistant Commissioner Taxila and Security manager of HMC. Moreover, the list of security guards along with particulars should be provided to DCO for the issuance of non prohibited bore licences.

He directed that more CCTV cameras be installed in HMC to monitor the visitors and out of order cameras be repaired. He also directed special branch officials that after 10th of Muharram a complete search operation be conducted of residential areas around the complex and suspicious elements should be brought to the notice of the factory management.
