Plea against Zardari for addressing political gathering

LAHORE, Nov 17: A civil miscellaneous application has been filed in the Lahore High Court against President Asif Ali Zardari for addressing a political gathering in Malakwal apparently in violation of Supreme Court’s orders.

Munir Ahmad filed this application in his already pending main contempt of court petition against President Zardari for holding political office and political activities in violation of a full bench order.

The applicant, through his counsel Azhar Siddique, said after Supreme Court’s orders in Asghar Khan case and LHC’s in the dual office case of Zardari, the president could not involve in political activities.

He said by addressing a political gathering organised by the Pakistan People’s Party, President Zardari committed a sheer contempt of court.

The applicant requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against President Zardari for violating superior courts’ orders.

Hearing of the main contempt petition is already fixed for Nov 21 before a full bench of the LHC.
