LANDI KOTAL, Nov 16: Militants on Friday opened fire on a Frontier Constabulary checkpost in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency, injuring a soldier on Friday morning.
They said the security forces returned the fire but the attackers fled.
A day ago, a soldier was killed and two injured after a mortar shell hit a security checkpost in Bara.
Officials said Miraj Khalid, who was injured in the attack on Naw Gazee Baba checkpost, was later shifted to a military hospital in Peshawar.
Also in the day, the security forces defused two improvised explosive devices planted by the roadside near Aziz Market in Bara.
Officials said the forces spotted the devices during a routine patrol and that they resumed patrol after the devices were defused.
SCHOOL BLOWN UP: Militants on Friday blew up a government primary school early on Friday in the Nandoor village of Tank district.
According to police, the blast partially damaged the building. However, no damage to human life was reported.
They said the school’s watchman was not on the premises when the explosion occurred.
Also in the day, a cellphone shop was blown up in Amakheil village in Tank district.
The blast damaged cellphone sets, computers and other equipment but caused no harm to anyone.
The Mulazai police station booked the militants and began investigation.
Police later cordoned off the area and seized another bomb during a search operation. The Bomb Disposal Squad defused the bomb.
Meanwhile, police of DI Khan and Tank on Friday decided to ban pillion riding in the two districts during Muharram as part of security plan.
They also announced to restrict the entry of Sunni and Shia ulema to the districts on Muharram 9 and 10.
SEARCH OPERATION: The security forces on Friday conducted a search operation in Ghalanai area of Mohmand Agency.
Officials said the personnel of Mohmand Rifles, levies and Khasadar force conducted the operation in Ghalanai Bazaar, Zor Kali, Miangan, Malik Aurangzeb Kalli and Khwajawas Koroona.
In Ghalanai Bazaar, Safyan Zafar, a resident of Gujranwala, was detained for interrogation.
Local residents have complained that the security personnel searched houses without women breaching their privacy.
When contacted, APA Ghalanai Jamshed Khan said the administration had already directed the levies forces to involve female staff for such operations to respect the tribal culture and traditions.
