NAWABSHAH, Jan 6: The Sindh Abadgar Board on Monday unanimously decided to block the National Highway on Jan 10 if sugar mills did not pay Rs43 per 40kg to the growers.

The meeting of the Abadgar Board was presided over by the president of the SAB, Nawabshah, Syed Zain Shah.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah accused sugar mills of wilfully delaying the implementation of the government’s decision, saying that the Habib Sugar Mill, the Sakrand Sugar Mill and the Al-Noor Sugar Mill, Shahpur Jehanian, were violating the law by continuing with the zoning system.

He said that these mills had expressed their unwillingness regarding payment of the quality premium to growers.

He said that premium worth Rs500 million and Rs100 million in arrears were outstanding against the three sugar mills.

SUICIDE: A 25-year-old woman, Zahida, 25, committed suicide by shooting herself in Sakrand on Sunday.
