LAHORE, Nov 14: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Wednesday directed the Punjab government to submit a report of the judicial inquiry conducted by a LHC judge into incidents of deaths due to reaction of spurious medicines supplied by the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).
Advocate Azhar Siddique, chairman of the Judicial Activism Panel, filed a petition and pleaded that on the request of the government, Justice Ijazul Ahsan of the LHC had conducted a judicial inquiry into the PIC incident. He said the judge completed the inquiry and sent it to the government.
However, he said, the government neither released the inquiry report nor took action against the responsible authorities in the light of the probe.
The lawyer requested that the government be directed to make the inquiry report public and implement the recommendations made in the report. He also requested the court to obtain a copy of new Drug Regulatory Act 2012.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial adjourned hearing of the petition till Dec 18 and directed the government to submit copies of the judicial inquiry’s report and the drug act.
Missing man’s case
Hearing a petition for the recovery of an alleged missing person of Gujrat, the Lahore High Court on Wednesday took notice of poor performance of the police in this case.
Investigation SP Javed Iqbal appeared before the court and stated that sincere efforts were being made for the recovery of Saqib Husain, however, more time was required to fulfill the task.
Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu remarked that the poor performance had been wasting precious time of courts. “God knows better as to when your efforts will meet success,” the judge observed in a dialogue with the police officer.
Justice Sidhu went on to say that the Punjab chief minister used to claim that traditional behaviour of the police would be changed soon, but it appeared that there would be no change.
The judge directed the officer to produce the alleged missing man on the next hearing otherwise an appropriate order would be issued to the chief minister and the chief secretary.
The judge adjourned hearing till Dec 6.
The petitioner had alleged that the police arrested Husain without registration of any case against him and did not produce him before any court of law.
