SRINAGAR, Nov 14: Two militants and three Indian troops died on Wednesday in a fierce gunbattle in Indian-held Kashmir, a military spokesman said.

The gunfight took place in Nowgam sector, 100km from Srinagar, when militants tried to cross the Line of Control, the spokesman alleged.

“An infiltration bid was foiled by troops on the Line of Control, killing two militants, but three soldiers were also killed,” Col A. Vashisht said.

In another encounter late on Tuesday, police claimed to have killed a ‘commander’ of Lashkar-e-Taiba in a gunfight in southern part of the disputed region.

“A most wanted militant commander affiliated with LeT was killed by a joint search party of the police and army,” an Indian police officer said.—AFP
