KARAK, Nov 13: District Police Officer Sajjad Ahmad Khan inaugurated on Tuesday the reconstructed building of Karak police station, which had been destroyed in a suicide bombing in February 2010.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the DPO said that the government was committed to providing maximum facilities and equipments to the police to counter terrorist activities in an effective manner.

Sajjad Khan said the police officials were public servants, adding the police station culture would be changed to restore confidence of the people in the police force.

He appreciated the people of Karak for maintaining exemplary peace and extending cooperation to the police to maintain smooth law and order in the district.

The Karak police station building was destroyed when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden pick-up into the building in February 2010.

Four people, including a constable, had been killed and 27 others injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, a local court sent an accused who was arrested on charges of robbery to jail on Tuesday.

The accused, Wali Dad Khan, was arrested by the police after robbers broke into a shop at Amberi Kala chowk on Sunday night and took away Rs250,000 in cash, besides ghee, sugar and other commodities.

STRIKE PUT OFF: The oil tankers association on Tuesday called off its strike after successful negotiations with the district administration.

Resultantly, the supply of crude oil from the central processing facility at Banda Daud Shah to Rawalpindi resumed again.

Negotiations were held between DCO Karak Ali Anan Qamar and oil tankers association president Noor Habib. The meeting was also attended by NLC official Col (retd) Habib Nawaz and MOL field manager Mr Tauseef.

The oil tankers association president accused the TMA Banda Daud Shah of charging them more than the scheduled tax on loading and unloading. The accusation was, however, rejected by the TMA sources.

The DCO took back the decision of enhancing the said tax for the time being and directed the deputy district officer, revenue, Banda Daud Shah to look into the matter and present his report to him.
