Rallies banned

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday imposed a ban on processions, rallies and public gatherings under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code in line with security arrangements for Muharram, a senior official said.

“The fresh notification will not affect Muharram’s processions and Majalis as they have already been allowed,” said Sharfuddin Memon, adviser to the Sindh home ministry.

“The notification restricts other gatherings that may cause a breakdown of law and order or requires security from police which are already occupied with Muharram security arrangements,” he explained.
