MANY people are suffering because of alternative traffic arrangement made by the traffic police because of Ideas 2012 -- the defence exhibition -- being held at the Expo Centre near the Civic Centre.

University Road, which is one of the busiest and major roads of the city, is affected because of this defence exhibition. Every year organisers choose the Expo Centre as the venue and citizens face extreme hardships because of closure of roads and traffic diversions.

As a result, it creates traffic mess and chaos. Traffic jam on this busy road also causes congestion on alternative routes. Two major hospitals are also situated in the vicinity and patients and their relatives have to bear a lot of misery because of traffic congestion and closure of the road leading to the Expo Centre.

Many people get stuck in traffic for hours and reach late at their workplace. I do not know whose idea is it to have this Ideas 2012 at the Expo Centre but I would like to give the organisers another idea.

They should have these exhibitions somewhere outside the city area like the Superhighway or the National Highway. This will spare the people the misery in the shape of road closures, traffic jams and waste of time, fuel and energy.

Relocating the site

EXHIBITIONS at the Expo Centre take place on a regular basis. These create traffic problems. The current exhibition-- Ideas 2012 -- has affected the traffic of many important routes such as Civic Centre, Stadium Road, Rashid Minhas Road and Sharea Faisal.

To overcome the problem, the exhibition should be relocated on the Superhighway.

Advance planning

THIS refers to public sufferings caused by traffic mismanagement during the ongoing defence exhibition at the Expo Centre.

Whenever there is a VVIP/VIP movement, an exhibition is arranged at the Expo Centre or there is a public gathering, the city administration just fails to control and manage traffic movement which creates chaos in the city.

On certain occasions, it has been noticed that these traffic changes are so sudden that people are caught unawares in the traffic jam due to which everyone tries to take a short cut, creating distortions in the movement of traffic to the great the suffering of the people.

In my opinion, it would be wise if the city administration and the police take timely action and plan the overall traffic movement before time and inform the public through print and electronic media. It will make the lives of the people, who are already under tremendous stress due to various reasons, a little easier.
