MIRPURKHAS, Oct 9: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Hyderabad, lodged a case against a former line superintendent of construction and renovation, Hesco, Mirpurkhas, on the charges of misappropriation of material at the Wenjhari feeder scheme, Tharparkar District.
The construction and renovation department, Hesco, had issued material for the Wenjhari feeder scheme at an estimated cost of Rs5.02 million, but the material was allegedly embezzled by the then SDO of the department, Mirpurkhas, Iftikhar, and then line superintendent, Mujahid Hussain.
A team of the FIA, Hyderabad, had conducted a raid near Mithi at the site some time back and found no work had been done there. It also recovered 15 drum conductors containing grass, which had been placed with Haseeb Alam, line superintendent, construction and renovation, Hesco, Mirpurkhas.
The FIA, Hyderabad, after getting permission from the authorities, lodged an FIR and nominated the former line superintendent, Mujahid Hussain, as accused. He has been dismissed from service on the charges of corruption, while, the SDO, Iftikhar, has also been retired forcefully.
LOOTED: Four armed men looted passengers of a Karachi-bound coach near Ratanabad, at Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas road late on Monday night.
According to details, four unknown armed dacoits, who were travelling in the coach (GA 6965) in the guise of passengers, held all passengers and staff of the coach hostage on gunpoint and looted gold ornaments, watches, valuables and cash of thousands of rupees.
At Ratanabad, they got the coach stopped and escaped towards the forest. Old Mirpur police have registered the case and were investigating.

LADY PEON: Rabita Secretary of All Sindh Lower Staff Association education department, Mirpurkhas, Shahid Ali Sodho has expressed concern over the manhandling of a lady peon of government girls higher secondary school, Mirpurkhas, by a teacher.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, he said that the concerned authorities have not yet taken any action against the above schoolteacher. He warned that if no action was taken within 48 hours, protest campaign would be launched against the authorities.
