Rape case: SDPO put on notice

ATTOCK, Nov 9: The District Police Officer (DPO), Mohammad  Hilal Khan,  has asked the Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Jand Police circle,  to give explanation for withdrawal of rape-cum-kidnapping case against four accused, it has been learnt.

The sources said the DPO had asked the SDPO to explain as how he gave assent to withdrawal of the case by the Jand Police when he did not receive the medico-legal report and DNA test of the victim girl.

In October, the DPO had reportedly suspended the Jand police SHO and Investigation officer (IO) on the same charges last month, besides sending a request for reopening the case to the Range Crime Board (RCB) Rawalpindi.

A 14-year- old girl was allegedly abducted and raped at gunpoint by four persons some three months back with the alleged connivance of IO of Jand Police.

Later on, the IO tried to forcibly marry her with one of the accused and took her signature on the Nikahnama, the father of the girl said.

According to the complaint, he even pressurised the father to take Rs400,000 from accused for patch-up, but he refused.

After exhausting all avenues for patch-up, the IO, with the approval of the SHO, declared all the accused innocent in the investigation by allegedly taking huge share from them. —Correspondent
